Hiking the Colorado-X, CU Boulder

March 19 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Join India Wood for wild stories about backpacking a 1,500-mile X across Colorado. Be inspired by one woman’s solo adventure and hear her observations of this geologically and ecologically diverse state as a square sample of our planet.

Join India for a showing of the “Diagonal” documentary about her hike and a slide show and stories about backpacking her own routes from the SE to NW state corners in 2020 and NE to SW in 2022. At age 55, never having met a physical challenge and feeling stuck in life, she decided to learn to stand on her own two feet as a solo female adventurer. Her journey was possible because she went “diagonal” as a listening Boulderite with rural farmers and ranchers who offered help and friendship as she sought places to hike, camp, and cache water. Her challenges included early stupidity, plains windstorms and heat exhaustion, route finding through private lands in South Park, a Vail bear with a nose for chocolate, and Teller County desperadoes.
