Hiking the CO-X, CMC Boulder

In 2022 India completed her 1,470-mile backpack of the Colorado X on her own route from the SE to NW and NE to SW corners. At age 53, never having met a physical challenge and feeling stuck in life, she decided to learn to stand on her own two feet as a solo female adventurer. Her journey was possible because she went “diagonal” as a listening Boulderite with rural farmers and ranchers who offered help and friendship as she sought places to hike, camp, and cache water. Her challenges included plains thunderstorms and heat exhaustion, San Juan hypothermia, route finding through private lands in South Park, and a Vail bear with a nose for chocolate.
